The optimum geographical location of Iran puts it in a strategic position between Asia and Europe and along the Persian Gulf with great potential to become a major trading hub in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Currently Iran holds one of the cheapest equities markets in the region with a market cap of about $90 billion, The Iran Stock Market (IST) is fifth-largest in the Middle East and hosts 50 sanctions compliant companies representing 10% of those traded.
Since the lifting of sanctions in 2016, Iran has attracted a huge rush of foreign investors looking to be in pole position to gain lucrative projects and investments across several key industries including energy, mining, and the vehicles sector.
Iran’s insurance industry will be able to access, once sanctions are fully lifted, $20 billion of its frozen assets and will resume ties with European insurers which was previously limited to African and Asian insurers.
With its return to the SWIFT network, Iran is re-engaging with the international banking sector enabling an easing of transactions as well as letters of credit between local and international financial institutions.
